Exit Seat ABP Briefing – Land

This Exit Seat Briefing Card is Designed for use by flight attendants should the need arise to brief the exit seat passengers and give them an Able-Bodied Person (ABP) briefing in preparation for a planned or unplanned land evacuation.
Using an ABP briefing card provides three distinct advantages over just performing a verbal briefing.
1) Having an ABP briefing card can be used by a flight attendant when briefing the ABP passengers. Once finished, the flight attendant can hand a copy of the card to the ABP so they can continue to study their instructions. It will also keep them occupied with preparing for their task and possibly increase their focus on survival.
2) The procedure at some airlines requires the ABP to say back to the flight attendant what they were just told to do. Giving the card to the ABP’s eliminates the need to have the ABPs repeat their instructions. Again, the card allows the ABPs to study their responsibilities, giving the flight attendants more time to prepare the cabin for the emergency.
3) In the event of a short time cabin preparation with minimal to no time for flight attendants to brief ABP’s for the emergency, instructions can still be given to those seated in the exit seats on what to expect to do after the plane comes to a complete stop.
Instead of only briefing ABPs during a very stressful event in preparation for an emergency which the ABPs may forget some of what was said to them, ABP briefing cards are beneficial to improving safety procedures for the unlikely event of an emergency landing. ABPs will likely be better prepared for the emergency as they can reread their instructions until they have it memorized.
Remember to use your SMS Program when determining if there is any added risk by incorporating ABP briefing cards into the operation.
