Door failure in flight
A door failure inflight is highly unlikely based on the engineering design. However, it doesn’t mean you don’t need to know what to do should it ever occur. To respond to a door failure in flight:
- Notify/confirm with the flight crew that the door is not secured. The flight crew will turn on the “FASTEN SEATBELT” sign.
- Do not attempt to secure the affected door. Follow the directives of the flight crew.
Warning: Due to jumpseat proximity to cabin doors, flight attendants will need to be reseated to the jumpseat inoperative designated seat, or seated elsewhere away from the door. If all seats in the passenger cabin are full, two passengers will need to double-up on one seat. Coordinate with the PIC.
