Flight Attendant Certificate of Demonstrated Proficiency
Do I need to my Flight Attendant Certificate of Demonstrated Proficiency to work?
A Flight Attendant Certificate of Demonstrated Proficiency is issued only after a person successfully completes flight attendant training and successfully completes 5 hours or more of OE and a competency check, often called a comp check. Afterwards, the Director of Operations or designee submits the required details about each flight attendant for the FAA to issue the card.
When the card is issued, it is sent to your residence to you. The Flight Attendant Certificate of Demonstrated Proficiency belongs to the flight attendant, not the airline where they were trained. Often, the airline requests/requires each flight attendant to provide Inflight Training a copy of the card to have on record as evidence the card was issued as required.
When working as a crewmember, company policy may require you carry your Flight Attendant Certificate of Demonstrated Proficiency. However, it is not an airman certificate, meaning from the perspective of the federal aviation administration, a flight attendant can perform the duties of a flight attendant without being in possession of the card. By comparison, pilots are designated as airmen, which requires them to report for duty with their certificate(s) in order to work. Flight attendants are not required to carry the certificate. If requested, flight attendants shall present their certificate to the FAA, the National Transportation Safety Board, or another Federal agency within a reasonable period of time after the date of request. The FAA policy for “a reasonable period of time” is 15 days.
If you move, your last name changes, order a replacement card, or for other reasons need to update your personal details, you can request a new card online. First, you will need to create an account with Airman Services. Then, you can log into your account and make the edits or request you wish to complete.
